Your first session can be daunting sometimes, so we created some best practices we believe will help it be a success! Keep in mind that these tips apply to all parties joining a session - Provider and Client.
Have a good, stable internet connection.
This is the most important tip! Here are key points to assure you have a good call:
- Make sure you are connected to a quality wifi connection or plug in to your router directly for the best experience.
- Limit internet usage during a call - this means even other people (ahem, teenagers!) that might be using your internet connection at the same time, and especially streaming videos or music.
Use a good/newer computer or tablet.
Running video takes a lot of a computer or tablet's power. Older devices or devices running a lot of programs in the background can produce poor quality. Close all running applications if you system seems bogged down during a video session.
Make sure your browser is up to date.
For best practices on both Telehealth and general security, make sure your browser is running the latest version. Check here to check. If not, perform an update as it will likely result in a smoother session and a more secure experience overall. Win-win.

Restart your computer before a session.
While this is definitely not necessary, if you've used another video application today, it's best practice to reboot your computer or tablet prior to starting a Telehealthsession. It becomes necessary when your camera or audio doesn't function for some reason and will always be our first troubleshooting step if that occurs.
Make sure a firewall isn't blocking access.
Some larger organizations, often clinics or schools with IT departments, will have firewall rules that block incoming or outgoing video connections. If you are having issues connecting, have your IT staff make sure a firewall isn't causing the issue. Have them contact us directly for further assistance.
Silence mobile notifications.
Getting a phone call during a session can be a huge distraction. But if you're using Telehealth on your phone when you get the call, you could lose your audio connection entirely! Switching your phone to Do Not Disturb mode before you join will make sure you stay connected and aren't interrupted.
